Here are some of the best hikes with campsites in the Central Coast.

Little Beach (0.8km) Return

This is a beautiful little walk, it is very short and great for kids with young families, just take them there put them in a wetsuit and let them play in the little river and the sand.

This is also one of the best places for an overnight camp on the coast with only a small walk in so it is a great walk to get you into overnight hiking. You can book using the National Parks website here.

The area has 7 campsites, a clean composting toilet, a free BBQ and very unusual for national parks, bins.

Gap Creek Falls 1.4km return

Elevation change: Up 90m, Down 90m

There is a nearby camping area: Gap Creek Falls Camping Area. This is a beautiful rainforest walk with many ferns, small caves and green walls. There are a lot of stairs, we took our three year old and they were fine - perhaps because its all a bit challenging and whimsical.

Is it a swimming spot? The pool at the bottom was very muddy, nonetheless I was just about to go for a muddy swim when our daughter suddenly acquired a few leeches there and I decided no to the swimming - its not really about that. We saw a beautiful eel in there as well which was nice. Beautiful walk - will come back for the falls, not for swimming though.

Tallow Beach Explorer (4km Return)

This is another great place to watch sunrise and with some lovely little beaches and camping spots. Book camping spots through national parks here. This is a pretty steep walk - it is all down and then back up, so a great walk to improve your fitness.

Kariong Brook Falls (4km)

Elevation change: Up 120m, Down 120m

This is one of my favourite swimming spots, it is only an hours walk in and you are in the water with a stunning waterfall. Swimming in nature is so exhilarating, the walk can be a bit warm in summer as it is mostly along firetrail, it just means that you are the perfect temperature for a swim!

Ritcher's Cave Long Walk (8.2km)

This is a long walk on firetrails to find the cave, if you want to find the cave's with a shorter walk, get directions for Ritcher's Cave Short Walk.

This has plenty of lovely rainforest and elevation gain so its great for getting fit. Finding the caves themselves can be a bit challenging so we advise if you are going to find the caves let someone know where you are going and when you are expected back. Allow a half day for this walk.

It is a lot of fun scrambling over the rocks at the base of the cliff, be very careful of your fitting as this is not a well travelled walk and there are large sections of honeycombed rock that have fallen and may be thinner than you think. The walk to the caves themselves is less of a bushwalk and more of a bushbash - you need to follow the gps map above.

Brooklyn to Woy Woy Via Little Wobby (16km)

This is one of my favourite walks on the coast, stunning water views throughout, you'll feel like you have the peninsula to yourself. Tank Cove and the Waterfall there is stunning as well.

Mt Wondabyne Loop (8km)

Elevation change: Up 200m, Down 200m

This is a great short walk to do at sunset after work, with beautful 360 views of the Central Coast. Its also really the Central Coast's only Mountain Walk, mostly along firetrail so pick a cooler day for this walk.
